Every apartment complex garbage room can get pretty nasty, especially in summer where higher temperatures can cause very smelly odors.
Odors get sucked up through an extractor fan to the rooftop and are expelled. There is also an extractor fan located at the top of the garbage chute on the rooftop that also expels odors from the chute. Some odor, dependent on the wind and how much air is blowing into vents, etc, can escape onto each level of the building.
So, what can be done about this issue, and what have we done?
We have recently (mid-April 2018) had the chute cleaned and deodorized.
Earlier this year, we had an Ozone anti-bacterial system installed in the garbage room. This has been a huge success, and we now have the nasty garbage odor under control. Unfortunately, the bi-product of using an Ozone system is the Ozone smell, much like Butcher shops that use the same system. We have gotten rid of one odor, and now have another – the Ozone smell is much better than rotten garbage smell though!
We then resolved the Ozone smell, by installing a scent system. This system resides in the garbage room and feeds through and up the garbage chute. This scent is adjustable and releases a metered dose of vaporized scent. The scent chosen is called “New Hope” and is a subtle fresh fragrance. The system was installed in early May 2018, and will adds to the great environment that Aspire offers to its residents.
We always strive to keep the garbage room as clean as possible, and we require the help of all residents in achieving this. In fact comments from our garbage collectors have been along the lines that the garbage room in Aspire is the cleanest they visit on their rounds!
Please remember, a garbage chute is NOT a chute for food scraps, recycling and other loose items. Please ensure that all residents in your apartment are aware of this.
